Members will be certified as an assistant instructor within Northwest Fighting Arts upon completion of the NWFA stand-up curriculum Phase I: Beginner, Intermediate, Intermediate-Advanced, and Advanced sections.  This certification allows members to teach within NWFA under the supervision of senior instructors.

 

 

 

 

TEST GUIDELINES FOR INTERMEDIATE/ ADVANCED AND ADVANCED PHASE 1

 

 

 

I.          Testing area and ring personnel

  • Ring size: No smaller than 18 X 18 no larger than 24 X 24
  • Floor surface: Wooden construction or carpeted surface properly taped for the appropriate ring size
  • Safety spotter: The use of floor surface testing area will require four safety spotters at each of the four sides of the taped ring
  • Referee: The use of a ring testing area will require a referee as the third person within the ring for safety of both the tester and the testee

 

II.          Testing personnel

  1. At all times the following individuals should be present during testing
  2. Jeff Patterson (Head Instructor at NWFA)
  3. Event (seminar, workshop, etc.) host
  4. Testee’s Instructor

 

III.          Thai pad or mitt holders qualifications

  • Phase I or higher ranking instructor
  • May not be the instructor of the testee

 

V.          Tester’s action requirements

  • Muay Thai
  1. Thai kicks to the out or inside of the testee’s thighs.
  2. Thai kicks to the upper body.
  3. Punches with the thai pads to the testee’s body or head.
  4. Pushing off the testee to disengage from a clinch.
  5. Blocking of a testee’s kicks with a shin only if time and the action is done to prevent injury to the tester.   The kick will be counted.
  6. Trapping of the kicking leg and punching with the free hand to the head
  7. Foot jabs to the testee’s stomach and face.

 

  • Boxing
  1. Punching to the head
  2. Punching to the body
  3. Jamming testee to pin on ropes
  4. Counter punches to the testee

 

VI.          Testee’s action requirements

  • Muay Thai
  1. Testee must finish both rounds
  2. Testee’s target areas for striking are Thai Pads and abdomen protector only
  3. Testee must through 60 kicks in each round
  4. Testee must through 35 skip knees in each round
  5. If the testee falls or is knocked down, a designated person will immediately start to count.  If the counter reaches 10 before the testee is ready to continue, this will be considered a knockout and the testee will fail the test.

 

  • Boxing
  1. Testee must finish all bag rounds
  2. Testee must finish all mitt rounds
  3. Testee must perform good defense against mitt holders attacks and sharp clean combos to the mitts
  4. Testee must Jump rope for 10 minutes without rest
  5. If the testee falls or is knocked down, a designated person will immediately start to count.  If the counter reaches 10 before the testee is ready to continue, this will be considered a knockout and the testee will fail the test.
