Jiu JItsu Grappling

If you want to get the most out of your Jiu Jitsu grappling sessions, you need to follow a few tried and true methods which are known for delivering results. While there are scores of different competitors who have different approaches to training the art, there are a few tried and true strategies which can enhance your success potential when studying the art.

First, you have to avoid trying to muscle techniques. Frequently, you will hear advice that you should not use strength. Honestly, using some amount of strength is not a bad idea per se. What you do not want to do, however, is use strength to compensate for doing certain techniques wrong. Rather, you want to rely on timing and precision to make your moves work for you.

Being in good cardio shape is a must when you want to improve your performance in Jiu Jitsu grappling. When you are tired or are not in the greatest of shape, you won’t be able to perform to the degree you want to. This is neither fun nor is it productive. Put a bit of effort into enhancing your cardio conditioning because this can only have a positive impact on how you perform in your Jiu Jitsu grappling classes.

This does raise another very important point. You should be someone who attends class regularly. No, this does mean you are to skip out on the other important things in life. Doing so would not benefit your Jiu Jitsu training. Rather, it would undermine your training. But, you do want to invest properly in your training then you have to attend your classes or else you won’t be able to gain the valuable experience needed to actually develop your game.

Jiu Jitsu Grappling Don’ts

Try to avoid the “flavor of the month” techniques. Actually, that statement should be amended somewhat. There is absolutely nothing wrong with taking the steps to learn hot, new, innovative moves since you do want to stay current with the modern innovations which are developing on the mat. Why would you want to fall behind in your learning? Just do not get into the habit of only jumping on the bandwagon of new techniques and only learning them on a superficial level.

Being successful with Jiu Jitsu grappling is not necessarily easy by any stretch of the imagination. However, you can make it easier to succeed with when you avoid common training pitfalls and embody positive approaches.
